What are cookies?
A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.
How I use cookies
My website uses traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps me analyse data about web page traffic and improve my website in order to tailor it to your needs. I only use this information for statistical analysis purposes.
Overall, cookies help provide you with a better experience, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives any access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share. You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer.
What cookies do I collect
Below is an outline of the cookies I collect on this website and an explanation of the purpose of collecting those cookies.
cookiepopup – This is a functional cookie that is set if you dismiss the cookie popup that appears when you first visit my website. The purpose of this cookie is to let me know you have dismissed the popup and agree to this cookie policy, so that the popup can hidden from you on future visits in the same browser window. This cookie contains no personal identifying details about you, and is only set with the value of “accepted” once you dismiss the popup. This cookie expires 1 year after being set.
_ga, _gat, _gid – These three analytical / performance cookies are set by the Google Analytics tracking code I have on my website. These cookies are used to monitor your visits to my website, and their purpose is to give me an insight into how my visitors use the site, so I can improve it. I have made sure to anonymise the only personal identifying trait Google Analytics tracks, which is your IP address. I have customised the Google Analytics tracking code so it masks the final part of your IP, by setting it to 0 before any data is stored within Google Analytics. To find out more about Google Analytics, the type of data it collects about your visit and how to opt out of Google Analytics tracking please click here.
By using the Website you accept our use of these cookies.
Third party cookies
Embedded content from third parties may also store cookies in your browser to identify you within the content in that is embedded. An example of where I know this is used on my website, is the Facebook feed on my About page. This embedded feed will set and read cookies for facebook.com in order to personalise the content for you if you are logged in to your twitter account.
I do not accept any responsibility or lability for the use of your personal data set and accessed by those third parties. I recommend that you check the privacy policies and cookie policies on those third party websites before submitting any personal information through those websites.
Blocking cookies
You may block cookies by activating settings on your browser which allow you to refuse the setting of some or all cookies. If you do so choose to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or some parts of our website or third party websites.
You can find out more about blocking cookies in specific browsers at https://aboutcookies.org.
